A mix up at the Boys Home public house in Abbots Langley, Herts, during May 2005 led to a customer being served with a drink containing a caustic liquid rather than the intended peppermint cordial. Following a decision by Three Rivers District Council to prosecute, the landlord admitted breaching the Health and Safety At Work Act etc 1974 and the General Food Regulations 2004, Watford Magistrates fined him £500 on each offence, with costs of £3,168.60.
Comment:
“Our residents have the right to be confident that local pubs and restaurants adhere to health and safety regulations and have a high standard of care towards their customers and patrons. We will take swift action wherever this is not the case and we are pleased that a prosecution was achieved in this instance.” - Councillor and Public Services and Health Portfolio Holder, Three Rivers District Council.
